Our Staff

Steve Copp, President and Founder
Founder, Steve Copp, founded Advantage Log Homes and Above Treeline Construction, a custom home building contractor, in 1984 long before he got involved in the modular home industry. Due to demand and the continuous improvement of quality and advantageous pricing modular homes provide, Steve decided to launch a modular home construction company as well and Rocky Mountain Base Camp was born. He brings over 4 decades of home building experience in almost every environment to the customer. Since Steve owns both companies, quality is never compromised and corners are never cut. Now, the desire to live in the mountains or anywhere our clients desire, regardless of budget, is not only possible, it is probable.

“There’s no better feeling than handing the keys over to a new home to a satisfied customer after knowing the project was done right!” – Steve Copp

Dennis Johnstone
Dennis Johnstone has been in the residential construction industry for over 30 years. Dennis has been involved in over 500 projects in Teller County and surrounding counties with many happy and satisfied customers.

Dennis started doing construction work in the summers as a teenager with his dad who is also a general contractor and is experienced as a master carpenter and has built every type of home- from all types of log to timber frame, conventional stick frame and modular home sets. Dennis love Colorado and enjoy camping, off-roading, and ATV riding!

You can expect quality, honesty, and integrity when working with Dennis and the team at Rocky Mountain Base Camp.

Although originally from New York, he relocated to Colorado Springs, in the early 1980s. So most of Steve’s life has been in Colorado, where he has enjoyed camping, skiing and visiting any one of Colorado’s hundreds of different tourist attractions.

Steve is a graduate of Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO and obtained his MBA from Colorado Technical University in Colorado Springs. Prior to joining the Rocky Mountain Base Camp team, Steve had worked handling Automobile Claims for 11 years. Whether it’s going skiing in the mountains and seeing breathtaking views, enjoying a game of one of Colorado’s many different sports teams, or taking his son to the top of the tallest skyscrapers in America.

Steve is excited and humbled by the fact that he sells the most affordable type of housing there is available at this moment in time and at the level of quality Rocky Mountain Base Camp provides. Steve takes great pride in helping dreams come true for customers and being a part of the process that turns over a brand new home to customers that have been dreaming of building their new home in the mountains for decades.

Today’s modular homes and manufactured homes are nothing like the mobile homes of the past.

The quality of the homes is better… modular homes now have to meet the International Residential Codes, with in-factory inspections regularly conducted. The choices in homes are broader… modular and manufactured homes come in all sizes and configurations, from models designed for parks to HUD code homes, single box homes to large modular homes with two stories or lofts.

The process is easier… modular and manufactured homes are quick, easy builds. You select a design that fits within your budget, choose the finishes, order the home, and typically we’ll have your new home ready to move into within 6 months.

At Rocky Mountain Base Camp, we sell RV park model homes, manufactured homes and modular homes from Champion Homes (based in York, Nebraska) – click here to see sample floor plans. We also sell modular homes from Family Built Homes (based in Gering, Nebraska), and Heritage Homes (based in Wayne, NE.) Click here to see sample floor plans from Family Built Homes, and click here to see sample floor plans from Heritage Homes.

In general, manufactured and modular home prices range from $90-$120 per square foot, depending on the finishes you choose, and the homes are even available in log-sided options.

In addition to new manufactured and modular homes, we also do additions and modifications to older homes. For example, we can attach an addition to a home. Or we can remove an old mobile home or trailer and place a new manufactured or modular home on the foundation.

And the manufactured / modular concept isn’t just for residences. We now use modular and manufactured components to construct:

  • multi-story apartments
  • hotels and motels
  • commercial buildings (such as stores, restaurants, and shoppettes)
